Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Children's Dentistry

How can we help you?

We love hearing from our patients and answering their questions. If you have a question, contact our dental office, or check out some of the questions we hear most often below.

Children's Dentistry

We see patients of all ages, including children!

It is very important to give children a great first experience in the dental office as it can be very intimidating to a child, and your child’s dentist in Lansing and his team try to take that aspect out and make it fun.

Your Child’s First Appointment

Just like adults, your child will meet with Dr. Mark Johnston first. This is a very simple exam where he says hello and gets to know your child. If your son or daughter allows, he will count their teeth and see if there is any decay.

For very young children, he will make sure their teeth are coming in properly and that their jaw health is sound. If we see that your child is nervous and does not want to open up, we don’t force it—this can lead to dental anxiety. We typically recommend your child come back on a different day.

Regular Dental Visits for Children

When age-appropriate, we clean your child’s teeth following their exam with Dr. Johnston.

When it comes to treating oral health issues in children, we can administer nitrous oxide if your child is nervous. This can help with anxiety, and the relaxation effects wear off quickly.
